What's in the three trunks Mrs. Lincoln left?
On April 10, 1997, William H. Norton, Esq. Old Lane Pine Road, PO Box 505, Osceola, Nebraska, 68654 wrote to David G. Marwell of the Assassinations Records Review Board to inform him that:
"I have in my possession three trunks which were shipped to me by Stephen C. Blakeslee, Jr. I received these trunks in accord with the provisions of the last will and testament of Harold and Evelyn Lincoln."
"The trunks remain unopened, and are presently in the possession of the County Sheriff of Polk County, Nebraska. They were delivered to him for safe keeping while my wife and I were vacationing in Mexico...These trunks will probably not be opened and inventoried until later in the year. However, I bear in mind your concerns and I will keep you informed if any materials are located which might bear upon the assassination of President Kennedy. Very Truly Yours, William H. Norton."

OSCEOLA - William H. Norton, 77, of Osceola, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at the St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Osceola with the Rev. Richard Dimond officiating. Burial will be in the Osceola Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. today at Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola.
Mr. Norton was born at Pierce to William Wendell and Catherine (Hayden) Norton.
He attended school in Osceola, graduating from Osceola High School in 1944. He began serving in the Army Air Corps after which he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsion. He received his law degree in 1951 then returned to Osceola to practice law with his father at Norton and Norton law firm.
He married Nancy Sayer. He married Margaret Watkins on Jan. 27, 1973, in Osceola.
He completed his last term on the bench in 1991, but for the next eight years he was a state/district judge willing to serve.
He was a charter member of Ryan Hill Country Club and served on the Ryan Hill Board of Directors and was credited for setting up the Albert Ryan Trust. He and his brother James established the W.W. and Catherine Norton Scholarship fund in Osceola.
He was also active in the Osceola Chamber of Commerce, Annie Jeffery Memorial County Health Center Board of Directors. He was also a member of the church where he served on the church board, the Osceola Masonic Lodge 65 A.F. and A.M., Sestrosis Temple, Forty & Eight Club, Osceola American Legion William Wolfe Post 91, the Polk County Bar Association, the Nebraska Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was past president of the Nebraska District Judges Association, served as Polk County Attorney, and served as attorney for the Nebraska Rural Electric Association. He was chairman of the Nebraska Power Review Board and served on the Osceola Cemetery Board at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife; one son, William Hayden Norton Jr. of Omaha; one daughter, Lisa Dale Norton of Gig Harbour, Wash.; two stepsons, John B. Watkins of Baltimore and Laird W. Watkins of Lincoln; three stepgrandchildren; and one brother, James N. Norton of Green Valley, Ariz., and Ericson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are suggested to the Osceola School Fund.
